Apple Inc has started manufacturing iPhone 13 phones in India, as the US group tries to reduce its dependence on Chinese supply chains.
The iPhone 13 phones are produced at a factory that the Taiwanese subcontractor Foxconn has near Sriperumbudur, in the state of Tamil Nadu, in southern India, a source from inside the company said, writes Agerpres.ro.
Lately, Apple has started to transfer part of the production of iPhone phones from China to other markets, including India, the world's second-largest smartphone market. The American group intends to produce iPad tablets in India.
Both India and other countries such as Mexico and Vietnam are gradually becoming important markets for subcontractors producing for US brands interested in diversifying their manufacturing activities.
The iPhone 13 is the fourth model produced in India after Apple started assembly operations in this country in 2017 with the iPhone SE model.
